Do you have a reading
goal for the year, such as ___ books? Why or why not?
I do
have reading goals, though this is the first year I've actually set
goals in this area. My first goal is to choose a quality book about
every two months and slowly meander through it. I tend to fly
through books and miss really being challenged and changed. Right
now, I'm slowly meandering through A Right to Be Merry.
It's just a short book and very engaging. I have to stop myself and
think, reflect on
what I've read until it becomes a part of me.
My
second reading goal concerns Boo. Before Boo's first stroke, he and
I used to read several books a week---separately. Now, we listen to
audio books or I read aloud. Engaging Boo's mind is essential or
he'll vegetate. I guess exercising our minds is as important as
exercising our bodies. While I don't have a set number of books as a
goal, I do try to provide at least two hours of reading daily---and
more if he's interested. Because I often have to replay or reread
chapters for Boo to comprehend, I don't concern myself with quantity.

I think we readers should always be concerned about quality over quantity. And you reading to Boo and listening to books together..a lovely, loving picture.
ReplyDeleteI love how you are going to slowly meander through it lol. That's great. Here's my Musing
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your answer. Quality is important and savoring is fun!
ReplyDeleteI don't think it ever hurts to be the person being read to -- it's how many of us learn to read! I also tend to read too fast and miss details so I find myself re-reading a lot.
