Musing Mondays

Do you have a reading goal for the year, such as ___ books? Why or why not?

I do have reading goals, though this is the first year I've actually set goals in this area. My first goal is to choose a quality book about every two months and slowly meander through it. I tend to fly through books and miss really being challenged and changed. Right now, I'm slowly meandering through A Right to Be Merry. It's just a short book and very engaging. I have to stop myself and think, reflect on what I've read until it becomes a part of me.

My second reading goal concerns Boo. Before Boo's first stroke, he and I used to read several books a week---separately. Now, we listen to audio books or I read aloud. Engaging Boo's mind is essential or he'll vegetate. I guess exercising our minds is as important as exercising our bodies. While I don't have a set number of books as a goal, I do try to provide at least two hours of reading daily---and more if he's interested. Because I often have to replay or reread chapters for Boo to comprehend, I don't concern myself with quantity.

  1. I think we readers should always be concerned about quality over quantity. And you reading to Boo and listening to books together..a lovely, loving picture.

  4. I don't think it ever hurts to be the person being read to -- it's how many of us learn to read! I also tend to read too fast and miss details so I find myself re-reading a lot.
